Normally I love Hideyuki Kikuchi and the last wicked city novel was wicked but this one meh First off it has no continuity with the previous novel at all other than featuring Taki Makie it makes no reference to her pregnancy and indeed at one point she wonders if she is in love with Taki which we know she is from the previous book There s barely any characterisation of these two at all.Secondly i didn t like the plot this one deals with dream realities a trope Kikuchi uses often, but really makes things confusing, prose not being a visual medium So we have an incubus who rapes women in their dreams Since the women no longer want regular sex, the human race is likely to die out In order to defeat it they have to unleash a powerful incubus to fight it and stop the whole world turning into a dream world The plot itself doesn t make that much sense and adding in the confusion of dreams within dreams ick.It seems like an excuse to write a whole load of glorified rape sequences to me They only happen to women, who seem to enjoy being raped by demons, tentacle monsters, a giant wooden tank, maggot covered corpses, snakes You want hentai in novel form, look no further But while Kikuchi usually balances the freaky sex scenes with story, that really isn t the case here alas it s really gratuitous With lines like An ordinary wife being raped by a demon in one shady corner of the underground was hot and a housewife and a demon at the same time, menage a trois It was the fantasy of every man, no matter his species You begin to see just how self indulgent this is.The other thing lacking here is character The only interesting character is the Dream Guard Saga Miyuki, an alcholic Black Guard who is the only one who has the power to save the day The rest of the characters including the villains are paper thin. One other thing to note is the lack of illustrations the previous Wicked City novel was illustrated, while this one isn t Maybe the artist objected to the content of this one seriously it s one rape scene after another or maybe if illustrated it would need an advisory warning. So Gratuitous and anti feminist in the extreme, with a confusing plot and paper thin characters, this one is a bit of a let down It s still Kikuchi and full of his trademark freaky weird, but certainly not his finest hour.

this is a decent book by kikuchi, but by no means is it his best his best work is vampire hunter d, this series just falls into a readable but not great effort this is not for the faint of heart it revolves around to agents, one human and one demon, who are attempting to keep the human world and the demon world from going to war in this book they are fighting against two incubi who want to turn the world into dreams this series is full of erotica and gore, so don t read if you aren t into them otherwise it is a fairly quick and entertaining read if you are looking to fill the time in between true works of art.

The Wicked City books are usually rad trash but this one s bad trash OOOO It s technically the sequel to Black Guard, but makes no chronological sense At one point Makie wonders aloud, What if I m in love with Taki or something disregarding the fact he uh, put his child in her only recently in the first book Women, eh Poorly written even by Kikuchi s lovably shit standards and full of stupid inconsistencies.

I liked the overall plot, but as with his first novel in this series, was very turned off by his hyper sexualization of the act of rape which happens A LOT in this book and ONLY to female characters I think he tries to use it to make it easy to tell how horrible these demons bad guys are, but he writes it like a love scene than a horrible, terrible thing and that just did not sit well with me So If you read this book or any other in the series, but aware he does this and often.

Good story, just be ready for tentacle rape than you thought possible something about a wooden tank and splinters too.
