Being a keen hill mountain walker and having watched the TV series that he book accompanies I was keen to read the extended narrative of GRJ experiences The book itself is a largish heavy hardback which isn t the easiest thing to read in bed It s divided into four main sections covering Scotland, Wales England and it well laid out with plenty of photographs taken from the TV show Without spoiling it, it s an easy read and tells of GRJ entire journey from novice walker climber right through to some pretty demanding ascents, all punctuated by his various humorous accounts of meetings with locals etc etc.All in all, I enjoyed this book however it didn t really shed any further light on the TV series.

An easy read but not as engaging as I had hoped I like the idea of choosing a few significant places in Britian to focus the subject matter, but Ian Macfarlane s The Wild Places does it better, perhaps because it is not encumbered with a TV crew.
